What Are The Different Types Of Cremation Jewelry?

Posted on: 26 August 2015

Losing a loved one is hard enough, but when it comes to deciding how to handle the ashes, you might get confused about what to do with them. One good thing to consider is to use some of the ashes to make cremation jewelry, instead of keeping them all in an urn. Cremation jewelry allows you to wear a memorial piece of jewelry that helps you keep them close to your heart, and also lets you make jewelry for other loved ones. Here are some different types of cremation jewelry to consider.

Necklace Pendants

One of the more popular ways to wear the ashes of a loved one is by having a necklace pendant created. Metal pendants are the most common, as they can be fabricated with the ashes made into the metal. Typically, the metal starts as liquid form, with ashes mixed in with the liquid. It is then poured into a mold to fabricate the pendant. It can then be engraved with the name of your loved one or the date they passed. Another option is to get a locket, place ashes inside the locket, and seal the edges of the locket with a soldering iron so the ashes don't fall out of the locket. There are many ways to create a necklace pendant with the ashes.

Handmade Beads

Another option is to create jewelry by using handmade beads. These beads can then be placed on anything from a necklace or bracelet, to a pair of earrings or a keychain. The bead is made with the ashes inside and can be of any material you know how to work with. If you are doing it on your own, clay is a good material to start with. You place the ashes inside a piece of clay, then roll it up and form the size and shape bead you like. It is then baked and dried, with the ashes permanently fused to the clay of the bead. You can make a set of beads, or one bead for each family member to do with what they wish.

Glass Baubles

If you don't want to go through the trouble of actually fabricating or creating your own jewelry, you can simply use a glass bauble or bottle. These are small glass bottles with screw-on or cork tops that fit the ashes of a loved one. They are small enough to hang on the end of cord or chain for a necklace and come in different sizes. Only a very small amount of ashes is needed for each one, so you can make them for multiple people in your family. Some glass bottles are colored or crackled so you don't see what is inside, while others are translucent. Contact a company like Final Care Cremation Services for more information.
